Sorry about Squirt

Sorry about Squirt's last post. I just changed my password, so you won't have to put up with him any longer. Sometimes that ferret really gets on my nerves.

Anyway, I haven't posted in a while because I haven't gotten a chance to get on the computer without my humans noticing. But I think I'll be able to post more over the next couple of months. Bye for now!!

Hello

Hi people. This is Squirt. Me George's ferret friend. Well I don't know if George thinks I his friend, but I like him anyway. I found George's password to blog. I noticed George has not posted for while, so me post for him. I wish that I could see George more often. He make funny sounds. But humans say George dangerous for me. I don't see why. I invincible. Humans always telling me not to jump off bed cause it dangerous and not to chew on wires cause it dangerous. But nothing can hurt me. They do not understand me. Humans fun to play with, though, when they not annoying you.

Uh, oh, George coming and he look mad. Goodbye.

Halloween

Tonight we went on a really strange walk in the dark. The kids kept telling me that we were going "trick-or-treating." I thought they were going to give me a treat, but they didn't. The kids dressed up in strange costumes and put me in my jacket for the walk. And every time we came to a house, they knocked on the door, said something, and then got candy! When we got home they spread out their huge piles of candy on the floor. My mommy gave me some dog safe chocolate, but the kids got WAY more than me. One of the kids held a lollipop at her side for a minute and I got a few licks, but then I tried to take it out of her hand and she took it back. But she has so much candy already! I think I might sue the kids. It's not fair they got so much.

My tortilla and corn

I managed to grab a tortilla and an old cob of corn out of the trash. I hid the corn in the kids' closet and the tortilla behind the couch. Unfortunately, my humans found them both and put them right back where I found them. I need some better hiding places...

Squirt

The ferret (my humans are calling it "Squirt") is still living in the cage. I can't understand why my humans would want to keep a ferret. Why don't they just eat it already? And here's something that's even weirder: when I growl at Squirt, my humans get all mad at me! What am I supposed to do? Just ignore it? But it's a FERRET!

It's all very confusing. If I didn't know any better I would think that my humans actually like Squirt.

The "Ferret"

Something wierd is going on... just what I'm not sure. My humans brought home some kind of animal and put it in the cage that they got a few months ago. I still can't figure out exactly what it is, but my humans call it a "ferret" and they seem to absolutely adore it. The cage is up on a table so I haven't gotten a really good look at it, but it smells funny....

Well, I'll let you know what happens!

Costumes

The kids are forever dressing me up in wierd looking, uncomfortable costumes. Don't ask me WHY they do it, but I suppose it's a human thing.

Here's some pictures they took of me in my costumes:

The Trash Can

There is one thing in life that puzzles me more than anything else: THE TRASH CAN!!

Every day, my humans put a ton of food, wrappers, and other yummy stuff in the trash can. And then the next day it mysteriously dissapears. But WHY would they put perfectly good food in the trash can? Maybe some of it's moldy or old, but does that really matter? I would gladly eat it for them if they don't want it.

Whenever I try to eat something from the trash can, my humans get all mad at me. I just don't understand it. They're obviously not planning to eat it.

Well, I suppose that's just another one of the mysterious habits of humans.

Vacation

I found out what my humans do while I get babysat!! Here's what happened:

My humans brought out the suitcases a couple of nights ago. I knew that could only mean one thing. I was going to get babysat again ... or so I thought. Turns out I was completely wrong.

The next morning my humans did the usual vacation stuff-- they brought their suitcases to the car, turned off all of the lights in the house and closed the doors. And then came the dreaded moment. They opened the door, walked through it and... "Come on, George!!" I was completely stunned. I couldn't believe it. I was going to go with them! They led me to the car, and I hopped in. Then we drove for a VERY long time. We stopped every once in a while to get out and stretch, but we were still in the car for long stretches of time. My humans found out that I have a fear of driving over bridges. They just make me so nervous!!

I don't know exactly how long we drove, but we finally reached our destination-- some little town. We went into a big building and climbed some stairs. Then my humans led me down a long hall with lots of doors. They stopped at one door, unlocked it, opened it, and I found myself in a little room with two beds, a bathroom, a desk, chairs... it was like a whole house squished into one room! We met some nice people (the kids say that they were their uncle and aunt), and then we slept in the room.

The next day we drove to another town. My humans left me in the car for a while. After that we all went hiking at some "historic site" in the mountains. There were so many jackrabbits there! I wanted to chase them so badly, but my humans had other ideas. They really need to let me go hunting. I don't know where my humans even get their food right now, because they definately do not hunt. Anyways, after that we drove for another really long time and we reached home again!

So that's what my humans do while I get babysat. I really don't see any point in it, but humans will do what humans will do. And at least they didn't leave me home this time!

Better Breakfast Month!!

September is BETTER BREAKFAST MONTH and I am really excited!!!! I mean, it would be unjust for my humans not to give me better breakfasts during better breakfast month, wouldn't it? Of course it would! And it's not like it would be bad for me or anything. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! I'm looking forward to a whole month of sausages, waffles, pancakes, cereal, eggs-- oh, I wish it was September all year!

Busted!!!

A couple of weeks ago I stole two nachos and hid them in the closet. My humans didn't notice for a long time and I probably would have gotten away with it if I hadn't kept going back to the closet to check on them. But I was so afraid that somebody stole my nachos, I just HAD to check on them!! Okay, so they were stolen nachos in the first place, but finders keepers. And my humans had SO many nachos, I figued they wouldn't really mind if I took two of them.

So, anyways, after a while I relaxed my guard, because nobody had stolen my prize nachos. But when I went to the closet today, they were gone!!!

... and my mommy's scent was all over the place.

Babysat once again

I got babysat again. This time my humans were gone even longer than before! Thankfully that girl came over to feed me every day.  And my humans came back eventually (and they had some really interesting smells on them...)

Birthday Party

Yesterday one of the kids had what she called a "birthday party." The kids' friend came over and they had cake and pizza and played lots of games. It looked like they were having a lot of fun. And the best part-- I got a little bit of the cake!

The kids said that my birthday is on December 9th. I hope they make me a cake on my birthday!

Oh, and last night one of the kids let me sleep on her bed!!! It was so fluffly and cozy. I hope she lets me sleep on it tonight, too!

One Mystery Solved ... One to Go!

I found out why my humans moved everything out of the kids' room! They were just rearanging it (and changing the wall color while they were at it.) Whew! That's a relief. Sometimes humans act so... strange. They always seem to want to change things. But I'll admit that the kids' room looks pretty good.

Now, about the other mystery...

So, like I said before, the kids brought home some really weird stuff one day. It smelled like some kind of animal. And now, look what the kids put in their room!
It looks like some kind of cage. The strange thing is, there's no animal in it. But it smells like an animal, and my nose is never wrong!

Weird stuff

There seems to be no end to the strange things that have been happening lately.

It started out gradually. The kids and my mom had been spending more time in the kids' room. They seemed to be sorting through things-- putting some stuff in boxes, and bringing other stuff to different rooms. And then, one day, they started moving furniture. The huge bunk bed was taken apart so now it's two beds. The shelves were taken off the wall.

That night, the kids brought out these fluffy things they called 'sleeping bags.' Instead of sleeping in their room like they normally do, they put their sleeping bags on the floor in another room and slept in them! I even got to sleep on the sleeping bags with them! That was so fun. I hope they start sleeping in their sleeping bags every night.

And today they've been busier than ever. I don't even know what they're doing, but somehow they're turning the wall pink! Creepy...

Well, I don't know what my humans are trying to do, but it's something big, I can tell you that much.

A strange smell

Yesterday, my humans were gone for a long time. When the finally came back, they brought a bunch of... stuff.  I don't really know what most of it is. But it sure smells strange. It smells like something furry, an animal of some sort. I've smelled squirrels, birds, mice, rats, dogs, cats, deer and horses, but this smell is different than any of those. I just can't figure out exactly what it is! Well, something strange is going on, I know that.

I'll have to keep my eyes (and my nose) peeled. I'll let you know if I find out anything else!

The 4th of July

Last night was kind of... well, odd. I think there was a big war or something, because I heard all of these bombs exploding. And something really strange happened when my humans took me outside. My dad walked forward and bent down to the ground. I think he was trying to disarm a bomb before it exploded. All of the sudden he started running towards us. And then there was some kind of explosion. There were sparks flying everywhere! Then there was a really loud whistling sound. My humans, surprisingly, didn't seem nearly as worried as I was. I think they were pretending to be calm so I wouldn't get scared. They took me inside after that. I was afraid they were going to get blown up out there, but thankfully they came back safe and sound.

The really wierd part is that everything seems back to normal today. I think that was the shortest war in all of history! Either that... or it's not over yet. I'm going to have to watch out for explosions for the next few days.

Groomed Again :(

Well, I got groomed ... AGAIN. *Groan* This time the groomer cut all of my fur short.

I don't see why my humans always bring me to that terrible place. Every few months they seem to be convinced my fur needs shaving. But why...?

Well, anyways, hopefully I'll be able to post some new pictures soon.

I got babysat!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy being babysat.

My humans had been talking about it for a while, and I was wondering what in the world babysitting was. I was beginning to think it had no meaning at all.

One morning my humans went bye-bye. It wasn't like my humans to leave at such an early time. I was very confused.

I waited expectantly for hours, but my humans didn't come back. Finally I heard someone at the door. So I got up, stretched myself and waited for my humans to come inside. The door opened and there was... huh? The girl at the door was a friend of my humans. I was confused, but still happy to see her. She fed me, played with me, let me outside and even took me on a walk! Then she left.

For a few days the girl came several times a day. I began to get used to babysitting.

Then, one day, I heard someone at the door. Of course, I expected it was the girl. But when the door opened, I saw my humans! At last, they were back!

Babysitting is kind of weird if you ask me, but it was pretty fun for a few days.

Oink

My humans tell me that pigs like to lay in the mud. I think I am a lot like I pig because I like to lay in the mud, too!

It's been pretty warm out lately, and I've been getting really hot when we go on walks. So when I see some mud, I just lay down to get cooled off. My humans don't seem to like it, but I don't understand why. I'm just cooling off!

And after I'm out of the mud, my humans let me go swimming or spray me with the hose, so I get cooled off again! Talk about killing two birds with one stone tooth!

Swimming

Today I swam for the first time!

I was going on a walk with my humans and we passed the neighborhood pond. I was hot, so I just stepped in. The cool water felt really good. I walked in the water for a while, and then I finally went into the deep part and started swimming. My humans wouldn't let me inside for a while because I was wet, but I really enjoyed the swimming part.

Running!

I just got to run in a big field OFF LEASH!! For once in my life, I'm actually tired!

It was so fun-- I ran as fast as I could. My humans were so surprised because they had never seen me run that fast before!

I sure hope I get to do that again very soon!

Guess What I Found!!

You'll never guess what I dug up yesterday! The hole of some little animal! That animal, whatever it was, should be very glad it was not home when I dug up its house, because I would've devoured the little thing in one bite.

Anyways, I was on a walk with my humans when I got a whiff of this really interesting scent (the little animal, no doubt). I was finally able to pinpoint the exact location of the smell. I soon realized the smell was underground. That was no problem-- I just started digging and there it was-- the burrow.

I'm very proud of myself, even if I didn't get the animal that lived in the hole.

Babysat

My humans keep saying that in a couple of weeks I'm going to get 'babysat' for a day or two. What that means, I have no idea.

I just hope it involves food...

Strange Days

The last couple of days in my life have been very... eh... interesting. And by 'interesting' I don't mean the good kind of interesting.

It all started when I went on a hike with my dad (normally I LOVE hikes, but for once in my life I wish I had stayed home!)

When I got home from the hike I noticed all these sharp pointy thorns in my fur. With the help of my humans, I was able to pull most of them out after a couple of LONG, DREADFUL HOURS. Then the really strange stuff started happening.

That night my mom and the kids started screaming about this really terrible 'tick.' For a while I thought they were talking about the clock, but then I saw that they had put a little tiny bug in a sealed bag. I guess that was the tick.

The next day my humans were still talking about the tick (why that little tiny bug got them so excited, I'll never know.) Before I knew it my humans took me to a strange place they called the 'vet.' First this lady brought me into the room and did all these really weird uncomfortable things to me. Then the 'doctor' came in. He did even more weird uncomfortable things to me. At one point he used tweezers to pull another tick from my ear. Then he rubbed this gooey stuff on my skin.

Now I'm back home and both ticks are dead. I don't see why ticks are so bad, but I sure hope I don't get more, because they seem to cause an awful lot of trouble.

Water

Today my humans were out working in their garden. They were pouring water on all of their flowers for some strange reason. I was pretty thirsty, so I tried to move the flowers so I could get to the water. My humans got all mad at me, but I don't see why. You're supposed to DRINK water, not waste it by pouring it on the ground.

Sometimes, I just don't understand humans...

My Worst Enemies

I have three worst enemies and they all live near me. The first two are Rosie and Muffy, my next door neighbors. Rosie, a Shi-zhu, lives on one side of my backyard and Muffy, a Bichon-Frieze lives on the other. I usually bark at Rosie and Muffy across the fence and they bark back. I don't like them very much, but I don't mind them as much as my other worst enemy. He lives down the street. I don't know his name because I'm too scared to ask. He's a Rottweiler and he's not like Rosie and Muffy at all. He's the kind of dog that doesn't bark or growl to keep you off his property. He's the kind of dog that just stealthily walks up to you with an evil glare, then attacks. I've never barked at him, because I don't want him to attack me. Even so, both me and my humans have had several close calls.

Really, I kind of like barking at Rosie and Muffy. But I could live without that Rottweiler.

The new best day of my life

Today I went to some little town up in the mountains with my family. We had a picnic by a little creek. There were lots of bees, but it was fun! Then we went on a long hike in the forest. It was SO awesome!!!! There were chipmunks, birds and lots of new smells to smell and sights to see. I sure hope we go back to that place soon-- I LOVE it!!

Easter, Finally!

The Easter Bunny really did come! And he brought me lots of goodies. Here is what I got:

  • A bag of jerky treats-- my mom gave me one and I buried it outside.
  • A doggie cookie -- I buried that, too.
  • A toy that my owners put treats inside. I have to chew on the toy to get the treats out.
  • A stuffed birdie that chirps when you squeeze it!!
I sure do like Easter. I hope the Easter Bunny will come again next year!

Easter

I can't believe Easter is so close! I get my own Easter basket this year. I hope the Easter bunny will bring me lots of treats and toys. Here is a picture of me with my Easter bunny ears on.

Pictures

As I mentioned yesterday, I went to the groomer's and got a haircut. Here are the pictures I said I would post!

Before the haircut:
After the haircut:

Hide and Seek

friend of my humans showed the kids how to play hide and seek with me. It's my favorite game! If you have a dog, you can try it too:
  1. Tell your dog to sit and stay
  2. Go and hide somewhere
  3. Say "come" loud enough for your dog to hear
  4. You might have to keep shouting at first-- it is very hard for dogs to find you sometimes.

Haircut

Today I got groomed. Let's just say it wasn't exactly enjoyable. And I could've lived without the bath.

But I did get a haircut and I think I look pretty good!! I'll post a picture of me with my haircut as soon as I can.

My first swan

Today I met my first swan. I also got chased by a swan for the first time in my life.

My humans like to walk on the river nearby. Some people who live near the river have a little lake right along the path. And the lake has swans in it!! My humans call them Skipper and Sophia. According to my family, the swans hatched some babies last year (the kids named them Noah and Chris). Now Sophia has laid more eggs and Skipper is acting really protective (the kids say he was like that last year, too). Of course, I didn't know any of this when we stopped at Skipper and Sophia's lake.

I saw a really big nest at the side of the little lake. Then I noticed Skipper was coming towards us. He was the biggest bird I had ever seen. And I had never seen a white bird before. I didn't know he was MAD at us-- I was just really curious. After all, I had never seen a swan before. And I wasn't REALLY trying to steal the eggs. I was just looking. But I guess Skipper didn't want to take any chances. He swam towards me and my family and climbed out of the water. He looked really scary up close, so I ran away as fast as I could, pulling my dad behind me.

Well, I don't think I'm going to get too close to the swans after this, but maybe I will look at them from a distance. They are really interesting.

Tempting Dinosaurs

A couple of weeks ago the kids left a small plastic toy dinosaur on the floor. I knew I shouldn't have taken it, but OOHH, IT WAS SOOO TEMPING! Don't you get tempted when kids leave little toys on the floor? Well, I took the dinosaur and started chewing on it. When mom came out I put the dinosaur under my paw so she wouldn't see it. I think I wouldn't have gotten away with it if I didn't feel so guilty. I'm pretty sure it showed on my face. I got in trouble and the kids put their dinosaurs away. But really, I think it was the kids' fault. THEY should have put away their dinosaurs.

My Dictionary

I'm not exactly fluent in English, but I have caught onto quite a few words. Below is my dictionary of English words. I would especially recomend this dictionary to a dog. Some of these words may have other meanings, but this is how my masters use them.

Treat: Something very yummy that you eat.
Hot dog: A kind of treat that humans usually eat. But sometmes dogs eat them too, so if you hear this word you should head to the kitchen, just in case.
Walk: A long stroll where you wear a leash. Usually one or more members of your pack comes with you on a walk.
Bye-Bye: An expression used by humans to notify their dogs that they are leaving and the dog has to stay home.
Nighty-Night: An expression used by humans to tell their dogs to go to sleep.
Outside: Humans say this when the dog is supposed to go out to the backyard.
Car: When a human says this it means that you are going far away from home in the weird little house on wheels.
Sit, Stay, Down, Come: These are all tricks. Usually tricks mean treats. Maybe I'll talk more about tricks sometime.

Bath

I got a bath yesterday. Ugh. I hate baths. I hope I don't have to take another for a long time. I take that back-- I hope I'll NEVER have to take a bath again.

But my humans say I smell nice now, so I guess that's good. And the kids sure seemed excited about it.

Cousin Dante

I met my cousin today! His name is Dante and he is a big brown dog. All he wanted to do was play and run. I was a little nervous at first, but he is actually pretty fun to play with. And his backyard sure smelled interesting.

Tag!

Today was awesome! My favorite part was playing tag!!

It started when I was outside with my family. My mom and dad were working in the front yard and the kids and me were running up and down the sidewalk. After a while, the kids decided to take me into the backyard so they could swing. They let me off the leash once we were in the backyard and the gate was closed. I really wanted to go back to the front yard, and I knew just how I could get there.

I stood at the door to our house so the kids would let me in. They did, as planned. Little did they know, the front door was open. The oldest kid followed me in the house to see where I would go. When she realized that the front door was open, she tried to get in front of me to close it, but I could beat that kid any day. Before she could do anything, I was out the front door with mom and dad. Mom and dad were busy working, so they didn't notice me.

The kid obviously didn't want me outside, so she started chasing me and yelling my name. I thought it would be a good time to play tag. So I took off down the sidewalk. Like I said, I could outrun that kid any day. Soon I decided to cross the street and go over to the neighbors' house. The kid yelled something really loud. I think she said, "Hey, mom, want to play tag with George and me," because mom came running.

Mom took off across the street after me. She caught up with me at the neighbors' driveway and she picked me up. I'm pretty sure that was against the rules, but it sure was a fun game of tag!

Walks

Life is good!!! We just went on a walk and I got a treat for heeling. I just love walks.
A couple of days ago we went on a really long hike. We must have walked for miles! My humans were pretty tired, but I wanted to go on forever!!

Nothing really unusual or exciting usually happens on walks, but I just love them!! As you humans say, "Stop and smell the flowers!"

Monday, February 22, 2010

Hello!

Hello, humans!

My name is George and I am a 5 year old Cocker Spaniel. My favorite thing is definitely food. I also like squeaky toys and walks. Oh, yes, I forgot-- I like to sleep too.

Well, I hope you enjoy my blog!! I'll write my next post soon. I've got to go now... I think I hear somebody in the kitchen.
